Characteristics:
Relative of the tomato/tomatillo family. Ground Cherry is golden in color, covered in a papery husk. The fruit turns from green to golden and falls to the ground when it is ripe. Their flavor is a cross between tomato and pineapple. This is a sprawling plant that gets up to 2 feet tall and 4 feet wide. The fruit is 1/2 - 3/4 inch. Stores in the husk for up to 3 months. Often used for making preserves and pie filling, but tastes sweet as a raw bite size snack!
